Maha Kali is the primeval force of the universe, the Universal Mother, the Great Goddess, the Destroyer. Maha Kali is JARBOE. During her 30-year career, the American multi-instrumentalist and singer with a voice that shape-shifts with seeming ease between that of a shy girl, a mother, a seductress or a demon, has been fine tuning endurance - physical, emotional, and spiritual. Through efforts in such disciplines as weight-lifting, kick boxing, mountain climbing, running, role-playing, studies in meditation and Buddhism, she has journeyed her body towards exhaustion specifically with the intent of rebuilding / reinventing identity and exploring the structure of persona. Now after 12 solo recordings, 10 albums with SWANS and collaborations on more than 60 productions, the living JARBOE has created "MAHAKALI", an epic, furious landscape of bitter release.
