After landing a Spellemannprisen nomination for their colossal fourth album, Keep of Kalessin scaled to the top of the charts. The Norwegian legends came up sharing the same rarefied air as Behemoth and Satyricon, but Reptilian shed their traditional black metal influences for more epic extremes. While the title traces back to the band’s fantastical origins, opener “Dragon Iconography” slithers from the mist with fire-breathing blasts and beastly riffs that could outslay any modern-day warrior. “Born of dragons / Fearsome blasts of legends” the band howl while charging into the heat of battle with axes ablaze. This reissue of Reptilian includes a digital download of “The Dragontower”, which crowned Keep of Kalessin as the first heavy metal band from Norway to compete for the Eurovision Song Contest.
